Thich Nhat Hanh’s gathas or mindfulness verses, detailed in his book, The Blooming of a Lotus, are short, practical meditations for the development of mindfulness. Instructions on practice are also provided by Zachiah Murray’s article, How to Do Gatha Practice.
Many apps exist for iOS and Android mobile devices with quality guided meditations, such as Calm, Insight Timer, headspace, and Happier (formerly Ten Percent happier), and many more.
Other, non-Buddhist traditions also have meditation practices that can support your practice, such as this meditation on gratitude based on a talk by Benedictine monk David Steindl-Rast. Please note that this meditation has background music which can be a hindrance to developing concentration but may be helpful to beginning students.
One may also consider recording their own guided meditations, though this is best attempted by experienced students. Most computers, phones, and tablets have a recording feature that can be used for this purpose.
