Our annual Wesak celebration will be held Wednesday May 14th\, from 6:00 – 7:30 pm. \nIn the Theravada tradition Wesak celebrates the birth\, Enlightenment\, and parinibbana of the Buddha on the full moon in May. (the actual full moon is May 12th). \nThis year’s celebration will focus on the first turning of the wheel\, the Buddha’s first teachings upon his Enlightenment. Everyone will have the opportunity to take refuge in the Triple Gem and the Five Precepts for Lay People. \nIt is Lucinda’s tradition to give a gift and a wish to everyone who attends. \nFor Wesak\, it is traditional to bring flowers as an offering for the altar. DESCRIPTION:Tuesdays June 3\,10\,17 6:30 – 8:00 pm\, taught by Lucinda Green  \nThese teachings form foundational teachings of the Buddha. It answers the questions of the Buddha’s quest. Why is there illness\, aging and death? What keeps us feeding our painful experiences? How can we renounce our habits of mind and behaviors that keep us mired in suffering. The Buddha laid out a clear and definite path for liberation from suffering. Right Understanding\, Right View\, Right Speech\, Right Livelihood\, Right Action\, Right Effort\, Right Concentration and Right Livelihood will be explored in this in-person class. \nRegister by June 1\, 2025. $75 includes a copy of Pathway to Freedom: Applying the Teachings of the Buddha. DESCRIPTION:**NEW DATES** Saturday\, August 23rd 10am – 4pm & Sunday\, August 24th 10am – 3pm \nThis workshop is the first of two companion workshops on a central teaching of the Buddha: that what we take to be solid\, independent\, and separate is rather a continual flow of causes and conditions which come together\, exist for a time\, and then dissolve. \nIn this worksop we look at the Aggregates\, which help us to understand that what we identify as a separate individual – I\, me – is actually an ever-swirling combination of five aspects interacting so swiftly that we mistake the experience as solid\, separate\, unique\, and independent. Clinging to this misperception creates a sense of dissatisfaction and suffering. \nIn the second workshop we look at Dependent Origination or Dependent Co-Arising\, which broadens the scope to help us understand how everything is interconnected. All phenomena are in relationship to multiple streams of co-existing phenomena. Nothing is separate\, distinct\, independent. Everything affects everything else. \nThe goal of these classes isn’t to say that nothing exists; rather it is to help us shift our view of what is real. We broaden our understanding of Right View also called Right Understanding. This is an essential understanding that undergirds the teachings of the Buddha. \nIt is not required for students to take both workshops\, though it may be beneficial to do so. The fee if you register separately for each workshop is $65. If you register for both at the same time\, the fee for both is $110.
