SUMMARY:Dharma Kids Program
DESCRIPTION:Dharma Kids introduces children to mindfulness in a fun way that is developmentally appropriate for ages 5-10. Each class has a theme based in Buddhist ethics and wisdom\, such as loving kindness\, gratitude\, moderation\, honesty\, etc. \nWe use stories and crafts to explore the theme and lots of games\, movement\, and breathwork to build focus and encourage self-regulation. We emphasize the mind-body connection so kids understand WHY they often feel big feelings and how that affects their bodies and their behavior. \nRather than sitting for long periods of time\, quiet moments are interspersed throughout the class\, creating multiple opportunities to notice what is going on inside the body and the mind. Dharma Kids develop strategies to take good care of ALL of their emotions (even the unpleasant ones). \nEmail sarahpont2001@yahoo.com with any questions or to receive reminder emails and detailed information about each Dharma Kids class. \nIf planning to attend\, please RSVP to Sarah at sarahpont2001@yahoo.com to make sure there are enough materials for all the kids!!!

SUMMARY:The Khandhas: Translated as the Aggregates of Clinging
DESCRIPTION:**NEW DATES** Saturday\, August 23rd 10am – 4pm & Sunday\, August 24th 10am – 3pm \nThis workshop is the first of two companion workshops on a central teaching of the Buddha: that what we take to be solid\, independent\, and separate is rather a continual flow of causes and conditions which come together\, exist for a time\, and then dissolve. \nIn this worksop we look at the Aggregates\, which help us to understand that what we identify as a separate individual – I\, me – is actually an ever-swirling combination of five aspects interacting so swiftly that we mistake the experience as solid\, separate\, unique\, and independent. Clinging to this misperception creates a sense of dissatisfaction and suffering. \nIn the second workshop we look at Dependent Origination or Dependent Co-Arising\, which broadens the scope to help us understand how everything is interconnected. All phenomena are in relationship to multiple streams of co-existing phenomena. Nothing is separate\, distinct\, independent. Everything affects everything else. \nThe goal of these classes isn’t to say that nothing exists; rather it is to help us shift our view of what is real. We broaden our understanding of Right View also called Right Understanding. This is an essential understanding that undergirds the teachings of the Buddha. \nIt is not required for students to take both workshops\, though it may be beneficial to do so. The fee if you register separately for each workshop is $65. If you register for both at the same time\, the fee for both is $110. Contact Ananda Marga at Margacallender@hotmail.com with questions or to register.

SUMMARY:Paticca Samuppada: Translated as Dependent Origination or Dependent Co-Arising
DESCRIPTION:Saturday\, Sept 13th 10am – 4pm & Sunday\, Sept 14th 10am – 3pm \nThis workshop is the second of two companion workshops on a central teaching of the Buddha: that what we take to be solid\, independent\, and separate is rather a continual flow of causes and conditions which come together\, exist for a time\, and then dissolve. \nIn the first workshop we look at the Aggregates\, which help us to understand that what we identify as a separate individual – I\, me – is actually an ever-swirling combination of five aspects interacting so swiftly that we mistake the experience as solid\, separate\, unique\, and independent. Clinging to this misperception creates a sense of dissatisfaction and suffering. \nIn this workshop we look at Dependent Origination or Dependent Co-Arising\, which broadens the scope to help us understand how everything is interconnected.
